About YOVENCO

Youth Volunteers for Development and Environment Conservation (YOVENCO) was founded on 10th march 2001. YOVENCO is non-governmental, non-profit making and non-political organization with headquarter in Berbera and sub-offices in Hargeisa & Burao.

YOVENCO has been working as a voluntary with its community in the social livelihood development, health improvement, Child protection, youth empowerment as well as the conservation of the environment. YOVENCO is a legally registered NGO in Somaliland by Attorney General, Ministry of youth & sports and the Ministry of National Planning and Development. For the past working experience, YOVENCO has a strong collaboration with the local authorities, grass-root communities in Somaliland.

YOVENCO has established strategic allies during the decades of its operations and become influential member of Somaliland civil society networks and forums namely; Somaliland National Youth Organization (SONYO) an Umbrella youth Network, Somaliland HIV/AIDS Network (SAHAN), Somaliland Child Right Forum (SOCRIF), Berbera Economic Development Forum (BEDF), Somaliland Pastoral Forum (SOLPAF) and Network against FGM in Somaliland).

YOVENCO is nationally well known organization with fast and proven experience about the implementation of viable projects and programs throughout the country.

Mandate and Scope of Work

The mandate of YOVENCO is based on its overall goal, constitutional framework and current legal context of Somaliland; thus, its scope of work and programmatic operations are aligned with the Somaliland National Development Plan (NDPII), Sustainable Development Goals (SDSs), Millennium development Goals (MDGs) as well as other regional and global frameworks focusing on human rights, social development, environmental protections and other related frameworks. Specifically, YOVENCO currently prioritized to work on the following thematic areas:

Child rights and governance
Livelihood and resilience building
Education and skills development
Women and youth empowerment
Awareness creation on varied thematic issues including violence against children and women, HIV & AIDS,
environmental degradation and drug/substance abuse etc.
